Here's a little bit about me… my name is Jadeverett Mayhorn, and just a few years back, I was withering away into nothingness as an overworked engineer at my 9-5 job
Despite achieving a chemical degree and landing a high-paying job, I always felt so… numb.
Stuck away at my office desk, crunching complex formulas early morning, all the way till night, little to no meaningful social interaction, boring meetings, no physical activity, unpaid overtime…
I felt like I was about to go insane.
That was until I took the leap — A leap that, little did I know, would change my life for the best forever.
You see… I had always had a thing for basketball. I'd play it tirelessly for multiple days on end throughout my school and highschool life.
But somewhere in college, that passion got drowned beneath piles of course books, lost away for 5-6 years until I decided to quit my job, get my act together, and REIGNITE my passion by turning over a NEW flame, in a new way — Refereeing!
I started refereeing local basketball games, slowly honing my craft and learning the intricate rules (turns out, you don't get to learn everything by just playing, observing is KEY part at getting better too!)
Soon enough, I was refereeing some high-level high school matches, and even semi-pro tournaments!
Fast forward to today, and I'm a local referee making anywhere from $30-$85 PER game!
Now I'm no NBA referee (yet), but I've learned enough to start coaching and teaching other aspiring referees to pursue this fulfilling, exciting career.
